Manohar Parrikar’s death could not have come at a worse time for the BJP. Parrikar was the man of all seasons and was immensely popular. Even non-BJP parties respected him and his leadership. The present alliance partners like Goa Forward Party, Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party have joined the Government only because of Parrikar.
Without Parrikar, they would now reconsider their decision whether to stay in the government or not. So electing a successor to Parrikar is going to be a very tough call for the BJP leadership. Some sources are trying to rope in former CM and Congress leader Digambar Kamat into the BJP and make him the CM.
Kamat was a former BJP member and had later defected to the Congress. Union Minister Sripad Naik is another CM probable. But, the BJP will have to consult the alliance partners before zeroing in on the CM candidate.
