The only minister from both the Telugu states, G Kishan Reddy, is the most sought-after man for the civil servants. At least five IAS and IPS officers are now trying to be his private secretaries. Among them are four IAS officers from Telangana and one IPS from AP.
This will offer them a stint in Delhi and that will give them a standing in the power corridors of the national capital. The names of Nalgonda collector Gaurav Uppal, GHMC mandarin Amrapali, Information Commission officer Ilambarithi, AP’s IPS officer K Varma are said to be in the race for the post.
But, the final decision on who would be the PS is in the hands of Home Minister Amit Shah. Shah does not want any black sheep and wants to ensure that only right persons are appointed to the post. Kishan Reddy himself, may not have much say. Already, Modi Government has decided that an officer would be PS only for five years and no more.
